A short snout and other genetic predispositions may cause them to have frequent problems with their eyes. Chromosomes come in pairs so each dog has two different alleles at each locus on the chromosome pairs and depending on the dominance of the alleles contained at the locus determines the color of the individual dog. In these individuals their eye glow is red as it is in humans.
